Young Students Love Our Summer RABBITS, LIONS, TIGERS Program

 

The Panama City Renaissance School summer program for preschool and elementary school children will run from June 6 until July 1. The students will learn Chinese (45 minutes – 1 hour per half day session), participate in the arts and community service and have fun with English language arts, math and science.

This program is open to the community. Your child does not have to attend the PCRS during the school year to participate. In addition, no prior foreign language exposure is required.

Parents can choose one week, several weeks or the whole month. There is a morning program (8:00 – 12:30), an afternoon program (12:30 – 5:00) and also a full day program (8:00 – 5:00).

There are three levels:
Rabbits – must have been at least 3 years old by 9/1/10,
Lions – must have been at least 5 yrs old by 9/1/10
Tigers – must have been at least 7 yrs old by 9/1/10 (completed grades 2-5).

The weekly cost of the program is $75 for a half day and $120 for a full day.

THE SUMMER CHALLENGE PROGRAM: from June 6 to July 1, 2011

In the Challenge Program, students can participate in computer programming, competition math (Math Counts and International Math Olympiad preparation), competition history (preparation for the History Fair), competition science (preparation for the Science Fair), creativity and innovation, Chinese calligraphy, performing arts and Chinese language arts.

NOTE: These programs are open to the Panama City community. A child does not need to attend the PCRS during the school year to participate in the summer program.

Computer Programming (10:15 – 1:45, June 6 – 10) – Learn how to program using MIcrosoft Visual Basic. Class limited to 15 students. Required skills: Proficiency with addition, subtraction, multiplication and division as well as order of operations. Typing. Basic word processing and Internet proficiency. Required equipment: laptop computer Teacher: Sheng (biography) Cost: $100

Competition Math (10: 15 – 1:45, June 13 – 17) - Preparation for math competitions including Math Counts and International Math Olympiad. Focus on problem solving skills. One on one assessment and coaching. Class limited to 15 students. Teacher: Sheng (biography) Cost: $100

Competition Science (10:15 – 1:45, June 20 – 24) – This class should help reduce the stress associated with science fair. During the class the students will review the science fair guidelines, come up with project ideas, refine their ideas, select a project, design their project, develop their hypothesis and develop a project plan. Class limited to 15 students. Teacher: Sheng (biography) Cost: $100

Competition History (1:45- 3:45, June 20 – 24) – This class should help reduce the stress associated with history fair. During the class the students will review the history fair guidelines, come up with project ideas, refine their ideas, select a project, design their project and develop a project plan. Class limited to 15 students. Teacher: Estes(biography) Cost: $60

Creativity and Innovation (10:15 – 1:45, June 27 – July 1) – In this class, students will learn about the design process including idea generation, concept selection, and design presentation. It is a blend of creativity, art, and engineering – a great class for techie kids who think art is a waste of time, for art students who are intimidated by science and for everyone in between. You won’t want to miss this one. Group and individual activities. Class limited to 15 students. Teachers: Sheng (biography), Talkington (biography) and Griffin (biography)
Cost: $100 + material fee

Performing Arts (1:45 – 3:45, June 27 – July 1) – In this class, students will learn about a different performing art each day: dance, instrumental music, singing, theater acting and storytelling. Class limited to 15 students. Teacher: Estes (biography) Cost: $60

Chinese Calligraphy (1:45 – 2:45, June 27 – July 1) – Learn about the history of classical Chinese handwriting and how to write using these techniques. This class is also offered as part of the standard half-day or full-day program.Teacher: Sheng Cost: $100

Beginning Chinese Conversation (1 hour per day, 9:15 – 10:15, June 6 – 10, June 13 – 17, June 20 – 24, June 27 – July 1) – Introduction to Mandarin Chinese. Teacher: Sheng Cost: $30 per week

Advanced Chinese (1 hour per day, 1:45 – 2:45, June 6 – 10, June 13 – 17, June 20 – 24) – Fun speaking, reading and writing practice. Teacher: Sheng Cost: $30 per week

Before and After Program (8:15 – 9:15 and 2:45 – 5:00)
Cost: $20 per week (morning only $10 per week, afternoon only $15 per week)
