This week the PCRS children are learning about what it means to be thankful. The preschool children made handprint turkey cards and the older children prepared handwritten thank you notes for their parents. In addition, the children who attend the after school program had a special treat. They made pine cone turkeys with bright colored construction paper feathers and feet.

Wow! During the past three months the advanced Artist in Residence class has been refining their painting skills under the direction of working artist, Kim Griffin. The 8 year old children are now quite comfortable mixing colors, shading, and working with perspective.

Ms. Griffin thinks “exposure is more important than execution.” In addition, she is a firm believer that shading, color mixing, composition, facial features and the importance of accurate observation should be taught early while is brain is pliable. Then as the children develop the necessary motor skills they can apply the techniques with greater skill. This is the second year she has been instructing these students. And it appears that her philosophy is paying off.

This week the PCRS children learned about Veteran’s Day and colored special sheets for patients in the local Veteran’s Administration hospital. The students had wonderful time creating and discussing the importance of Veteran’s Day.  After all the sheets were completed Mrs. Estes delivered the pictures to the hospital.

To celebrate Halloween the PCRS held a free community event.  The kids had a great time mixing, weighing and drinking their own witches’ brew. Then they ate cookies, played on the playground and created masks, maracas and pictures. What fun!

On Friday October 31, the PCRS kids and teachers came to school in costume.  In addition to in-class activities, the kids paraded around the school and into the church next door.  It was a lot of fun to see princesses, monsters, bunnies, cowgirls and pirates.  The kids enjoyed the festivities and the adult observers loved seeing the kids in costume.
