Each week students at the Renascence School International work hard in their language immersion classes to try and not speak any English. The Level 20 Class was not only able speak strictly Chinese in all three of their Chinese classes (Chinese language, Math & Science) but they did it for two weeks in a row!  As a reward for their hard work, Mrs. Stahl arranged a surprise field trip for them to the Panama City Science and Discovery Center!  Parents and teachers were able to keep it a secret until the day of the event!  Students had so much fun hiking the nature trail, and engaging in all kinds of fun science experiments and gadgets.  They were even able to go in the reptile room and see the spiders, snakes, lizards etc… that are part of the museum reptile exhibit.  This was a favorite for many of the students!  The children were able to practice their writing skills and wrote thank you letters to the Science and Discovery Center.  Congratulations to the Level 20 Class for all of your hard work in earning ‘Foreign Language Expert Recognition’!

  

  

  

  

  

  

At the Renascence School International students where outside on Friday enjoying an Easter egg hunt with teachers and classmates. The weather was beautiful and there was much anticipation in the air with Easter holiday just around the corner. There are many Latin festivals celebrated during the spring months. Spanish festivals are filled with music, dancing, food and Spanish culture. The students at the Renascence School International were celebrating in their own way with classmates and their Spanish teacher on Friday, March 23rd. This gives them the opportunity to learn more about the Spanish culture as well as having  some good, old fashioned fun.

Mrs. Perkins had games planned and students enjoyed playing outside in the sun. The games included relay races that included some funny dressing up. Only a few of the kids were brave enough to be the one in the costume! Afterwards the children enjoyed a special snack and learned some more about the Spanish culture and spring festival traditions.

  

  

  

Renascence School International Panama City is now offering needs-based scholarships for preschool, elementary and middle school students.

For many years, we have been asked about the possibility of the school offering scholarships. Until recently, there was no way for the school to handle the paperwork processing and needs analysis that is required for scholarships. Fortunately, a well-known school services organization, FACTS, is now offering a reasonably-priced scholarship paperwork processing and analysis service to families at schools like ours. We are very excited about the possibility of opening the doors to more children in the Panama City community. A handful of select students were out of school on Thursday, february 23rd! They were presenting their history projects at the 2012 Tom Barefield History Fair. This is a districtwide event that was held at the Gulf Coast State College.  These five students earned top scores at the Renascence School International History Fair, earning them the opportunity to compete at the county level.

There were more than 350 students from middle and high schools across the district participating in five categories: documentaries, performances, exhibits,history papers and website. There were individual and group entires. The students from the Renascence School that competed were Katherine Kozan, Sarah Rifai, Amelia Talkington, Destiny Worley and Vicky Wu and their teacher is Mrs. Fish.

The students brought much excitement to the event and we are so proud of what a outstanding job they did!

At the Renascence School International in Panama City Florida, students had a special opportunity to bring a friend to school on Presidents Day!  Each visiting friend  that came to the event went to classes and participated in all of the programs that the school has to offer.  Visiting students were able to see what a day at the Renascence school was like. One of the highlights for the children was taking part in the Mandarin Chinese language immersion program and Spanish classes that are an essential part of the curriculum. This was an incredible opportunity for students to see if the school is a good match for them.  The students had a special time with their friends!

At the Renascence School International Panama City campus, students were celebrating with their teachers and classmates on Valentines Day.  Some of the children were making Valentines crafts that they could wear on their head, while other children made bookmarks and heart shaped boxes for their loved ones. The children were busy cutting, glueing, coloring and painting and having lots of fun They were excited to take their Valentines creations home to their families.

 

 

The Renascence School International held its history fair and open house on Tuesday, January 31 at the Panama City campus.  The history fair was open to the public and refreshments were served.  There was a nervous excitement in the air as the students took turns talking about their projects and facing tough questions from the judges.

The open house took place adjacent to the history fair and prospective families were invited to view the projects. The visiting families also had the opportunity to meet teachers, talk with staff and interact with current RSI families. In addition, the award winning curriculum was on display. Textbooks and other materials from each grade level were available for parents and visitors to view.  Teachers and staff members answered questions, so parents could decide whether Renascence School International is a good match for their child.

The Renascence School International Panama City campus Science Fair which was held on Dec. 16th, was the first Mandarin Chinese and English dual language science fair in the state of Florida. Three students scored high enough at this fair to move on to compete at the Bay County Three Rivers Science and Engineering Fair at the Florida State University, Panama City campus on Tuesday, Jan 24th to compete against other students from all of Bay County.

Excitement was in the air and there were a lot of interesting projects on display. The three Renascence School International students that competed there are all in a language immersion program at the school in which they are learning science in Mandarin Chinese through their science teacher Ms. Xiao.

Katherine Kozan, with her project on ball weight overcoming air resistance”, placed second in Physics and Astronomy and will be an alternate for the Florida State competition if someone is unable to attend. Vicky Wu placed first in botany with her project on the affect of different colored light on plants. Amelia Talkington also placed first with her research on how genetic modification changes corn in the biochemistry category. Both Vicky and Amelia will be moving on to the Florida State competition on April 3rd – 5th in Lakeland, Florida. What an accomplishment!
